GE Handheld?

I was thinking the other day... reading on how to portabilize a system... by yourself! (if interested check link http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-a-Portable-Game-System/?ALLSTEPS) then i had an idea a crazy, brilliant, awesome idea what if we were able to make some sort of a handheld for Game Editor... Just imagine Beeant's Winter Blast Remax on a handheld(or other games )... I mean, a lot of people programmed their games for controllers... this is a step up from that... I would personally build the handheld itself while other people could write the necessary script for the game to be compatible with the handheld... then once we have success i could make a tutorial on how to make it... and put the scripts in the tutorial... I know some stuff about computer chips and all that kinda stuff do you think we should try it????????

Please don't take this the wrong way. Your idea is not bad at all, it's just not very solid. Ideas like this have been suggessted multiple times by members here, but never have been followed through. There are way too many problems that would be bumped into when building a sytem like what you're wanting. In fact, you'd virtually be building an entire, custom computer with video input and output and sound and memory storage etc etc. It would cost a ton of money and you'd have to be really smart with hardware to get it to work. And the proggramming behind it would be a problem too. You'd have to write a complete OS to work on the system as well as the ability to read ged files. Again, it's not a bad idea but most people here right now have not delved into programming far enough to attempt something that complicated, so you would have much trouble finding a programmer willing to do it. However, if you are really passionate about this project, then I lend you my full support. I'm not saying I can garuntee you'll finish it, or that I'd be much help anyways. I'm simply saying that I'll do whatever I can to help :)

I actually though about doing this but instead of a portable, just making my own arcade system/console. You could use an old computer that you have lying around (doesn't have to be fast since GE doesn't require much) or build/buy a cheapo one, build a box for it, and leave 2 usb ports open on the outisde and the power switch. Hopefully if that computer has an older high-end graphics card then it could have an RCA output to plug into a tv (or just plug it into an old monitor) and maybe some speakers. Download something like joy2key for your controllers and have all your GE games loadable from a "menu game" and it's really easy to set up windows to boot without login and to load joy2key and then your "menu game" [http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Hiding_Windows] have 2 usb gamepads in and play away! Not exactly a full explanation of what you would have to do, but it'd more than get you started!

Could those same techniques be used for a portable system? :P

Listen closely it won't need a storage system because of disc... the programming will be complicated but i vigorously believe it's possible and i'm talking handheld like the picture shows. so will you guys help me? i could use some of techniques and instructables shows how to do stuff like this for a lot less of money than you think. :D would you guys like to try this with me?

I would like to help with coding if you can tell me what I need to use. However, I don't know how much help I could be :)

well... C is probably the best option because the script is in C but more will come as i start to build it.

What I meant was, you will have to give me a way to program for your system. I don't know how to code on any platform except windows. Plus, I've never worked with harware so I'd need you to tell me how to do that too. Or at least, provide a library or source that makes it easier :)

ok i will have to research some things and i will have to put this into a design process but i think ill be able to do all of the hardware jobs :D

All you need to do is create a custom Linux Kernel, and compile it, then add the "elegance Desktop" aka the e17 desktop environment, meant for super light weight access, and it has a customizable, fancy desktop that you can make on it.

*rubs head* no it won't have a os like gamecube it has no os it show the logo then goes straight to a game like that :D when the disc loads the handheld will read it and display it :D EDIT if not possible then we try the custom Kernel thing :D
