Cadet #0051 Update 4 (Final? Update)

Ok, here it is, my competition game. Sorry if there isn't a logo for it yet, if there are tons of bugs in it, I forgot to mention someone or something really important in the credits (Hey, I even forgot to mention myself in the game. xD), or if the story is too boring, the storyline (Well, the whole game) was made in a hurry because I was really busy this holiday, plus, I haven't done any of my projects in school for tomorrow. >_<

Ok enough about that, so my game is about a Fly Guy (A type of Shy guy, a famous Mario enemy) cadet, that's currently the 51st cadet attempting to defeat the evil forces of Mecha Core. The Mecha forces are trying to make everything into robots or else, dispose them. Well, most of the shy guys were killed during the mecha invasion, and now the main city is being attacked. The Mecha forces have surrounded the city, but it appears that there is a weak spot to destroy all the mecha robots already surrounding the city, by destroying the Mecha Core.

Here are some screenshots of the game:

Storyline!

Stage selection screen. (If you finish a stage, the ? will change into the stage boss.)

I bet there are still some bugs or even fatal bugs waiting to be squashed, so please report them in this topic if there are any! I'm also accepting any review or comments about the game. (Even Jolt's cynical reviews. :P) Well, have fun. :)

Upcoming features if most people think I should continue my game:
[X]Update credits: RPG Maker, DST for heart picture.
[]Jarooda Games splash screen. (Hey, Jarooda Games helped me a lot too.)
[]Finish stage 6-10. (Might take months due to school, but I'll start continuing it.) (Stage 6 done!)
[]Shops, for pets and power ups.
[X]Instruction tab in stage select. (In the form of a tutorial! :D)
[X]Story skip.
Lots of bug fixing:
[X]Off-screen text
[]Bomb hitting selected area instead of one actor.
[] Shop accessible via stage select!
[] Player stats in stage select. (Bottom part)
[] Colored recommended levels. (Red if your level is too low, normal if exact or higher)
Suggestions?

Update 3: (Minor Update)
*Made enemies and bosses much easier in the beginning parts of the game.
*Story update.

alright :) As soon as I have the time I will play this. Also, it seems as if you are the only entry in the tournament, which means you won, despite what I may think of the game.

Okay, so I finally got to play it, and I am stating that this is first impressions only, not the finalized one, and my first impression is the following:

- Epic Music
- Nice credits
- When I opened up the actual game, it had the dialogue, and I just thought it was cool to see a story in a GE game, and it was nice that you went ahead to explain several things, such as the shy guys' ability to breathe in space.
- Some parts were cut off though, I couldn't see all the text in a line at some parts.
- The actual game came and I tried to remember the controls and did, but for some reason, I am confused how upgrading works, I pressed space bar and the 3 upgradeable things came up and I clicked on the, but it did nothing to the SP number, and I noticed no stat changes, I also used enter to attempt to do so since enter is confirm, but that didn't work either, so I would like to have that a bit more explained for me, it probably is just a dumb mistake of my own.
- Level 1 enemies weren't tough if you could dodge successfully, and fire at the right time to destroy them, but when they did hit you, you were punished, usually half my health was gone just like that.
- The boss confuses me, as I can't destroy the defenses fast enough to get to the actual boss, and they destroy me, probably because I don't know how to upgrade.
- One thing I recommend is an option for us to skip text reading, and go straight to the game-play, as I would lose, I pressed enter a lot, this is at least before I noticed the resume option on the corner, but in case we want to do a quick-play, although the theme is story, it would be nice to be able to skip it if we already know the story.
- Epic Music

Again, this is first impressions, based on stage 1, I will wait to find out how to upgrade before continuing, and I will give a finalized review later.

Oh. Sorry about the unclear instructions. (It was only mentioned in the first part of the story lol.)
I'll make an instruction tab in the next update, along with the text skipping and story text fixing. ;)
To upgrade, you click space, and use hotkeys 1 for health, 2 for offense, 3 for defense, and 4 for bomb recharge rate. To stop upgrading, press space again.
The boss is almost impossible if you haven't upgraded lolz. Along with stage 2 and up.
P.S: Thanks for the feedback! :D

Thanks for the review, and nice template! :D
Comic Sans is intended, for those who want to quit. Muahahahha! They shall feel the Comic Sans' wrath!
ABout the music, sprites and sounds: I wish I could make them, but I suck at music and pixel art... As stated before, the story text will be fixed.
Thinking of making a tutorial for the game in the instructions tab! Gonna update that upcoming features list! ;)

Lol, still not gonna change it, until I get some better idea for a quit button.

Anyways:
I made a new enemy for stage 6 so far. This one is an interesting enemy. It moves faster as it's health is lower. When it's health is 0, it will explode like crazy... There is also a Blizzard weather effect, which will.... Meh, too much spoilers already. That's a hint of what stage 6-10 is going to be about. :P

I don't have a problem with comic sans, but now that the game-play is a bit less confusing, the game-play should be a bit better for me. Just when you update this, remember to add all instructions and such.

Alright, I will. :D
And not have a problem with comic sans? So only Jolt has the problem currently... I guess I'll have to change the quit menu in the next update.

Anyway progress:
Tweaked the bomb regeneration code! Now you don't need to get that pesky bomb thing in the beginning of stage 1.
Recharge didn't really have much of an effect. Now the effect is seen clearly. Added a limit for the recharge though. (Max is 300 ms per bomb recharge. So about 3.3 bombs each second.)
Finished stage 6.
Now to fix dem bugs. :D

I beat level 1 and got to level 2 and all I can think is wtheck. Level 2 goes from the boss of level 1 being a level 5 wisp to the normal enemies being level 10. A bit unfair to say the least as it is hard when the wisps hit you they take a 4th of your health. Also, the music is a bit weird in that level, it sounds peaceful, like something that would occur after you beat a final boss, or in an epilogue, or in the beginning when they talk about how peaceful the land used to be.

Woah, that's weird. About the music, I thought it fits because you know, it's like being in space? xD
Did you not encounter the pink enemies that shoot out lasers? :o
P.S: I'll reduce the difficulty I guess, actually I wanted to make it so you can train more in stage 1 to get to level 10. The wisps were supposed to be level 10 too... I guess that's a bug I'll fix later on.

Its not that the music doesn't fit the theme, it is just that it doesn't fit the circumstance. It is a bit peaceful to me, compared to the enemies who are shooting lasers and charging me. Yes I did see the pink enemy, who is also difficult for the level, as for grinding level 1 to make it where we can do level 2, I don't know if that is the best idea. You shouldn't have to do level 1 more than once, along with any level for that matter just so you can complete another, my personal opinion, just makes for forced grinding. In reality, the wisps should only be level 4-6 along with enemies that level as that meets the level the player is at, at that point.
