For the most part you're joking right? Because by not doing any of those, you are singling out certain opportunities that would develop a game's story in such a way that it could be more original than if you don't use certain of these clichés. The important thing is to find the balance of them and use your own idea. Anyway, you would have to play it to know it has any of the 192 clichés...

dude. most of that is what makes these type's of games good. its the feel to these type of games. theres plently of types of games
Racing - shooting - rpg - all the way to puzzle games.
people play the rpg games this thing is talking about because they are all based around the same thing
racing games all have a start and a finish. your in a fast thing and there are other things to race againts. in most games your car never ever breaks down or blows a tire no matter how hard you turn a corner. unless the game that you are playing main selling point is that the cars are distructable.
all games have rules that they must follow to fit into a type of game. this is the type of game

I read like 50 of those, and most made me laugh(from playing to much FF)
but yes, i agree with sky, you can't take out
ALL of these but some of the more annoying more obvious ones yes.
otherwise your game will lack almost all originallity. The main ones I recomend taking out is the main character's town gets annalihated(?bad spelling?), the whole big brother bad littles sister kidnapped, and I love this girl, are all really repetitive.

I did not make that list, by the way.
Tentatively, I agree, it would be almost impossible to avoid all of these. The point is that you are aiming to avoid these at all costs. They have been done to death or are so strongly associated with certain games that you are effectively plagiarizing.
The ones that bug you most... what are they and how could they be avoided?

The ones that irritate me the most are the uselessness of petrify/silence spells (genre wide!), the super weapons that are quickly obsolete, and the stupid things the hero is forced to tolerate (the noisy girl and the jerk king).
Tolerating things i don't want to is a lack of control i have over the hero, which makes it harder to get into the game (in the zelda games, link didn't have to deal with that at all).
Willow for the nes had an interesting take on obsolete weapons; you were always getting new swords and tossing the old ones, except for the DevilEye. Found halfway through the game, the devileye is the only sword that damages ghosts/undead. It continues to be useful even on the last dungeon. Also, newer powerful swords swing more slowly, so you aren't always in a hurry to get an upgrade.
I've never found a game with a useful petrify spell. Seems every time you try one, its just a waste of a turn that allows the enemy to surround your wizard and knock him off.

That is totally acceptable. You are making an ice game.
Also number 190...

190 isnt too bad. Go for it.
Huh, thats pretty hard to avoid all of them...
whatever then...
But it is worth it to try. How bad would a game be if you used too many? Use as few as possible. Beeant games are always good.

I beleive someone should try to make an RPG where all of these things are present, lol! It should be called "Generic Quest" or something to that extent, that would be very funny to see. The game could reference the article to show what it was trying to accomplish. Anyway, that's just an idea... lol
ttyl all!
