The future of Video Games?

I am quite curious, what will happen in fifteen to twenty years in the game industry. Everything must die off and I am trying to think if video games will be one of those things soon.

Original games are so much more harder to make now. With thousands of different games out there, you wonder what other ideas can be left. We already see a lot of the same shooters being made over and over. If one company is to survive, it would have to be Nintendo, since it is directed at games, but this is to say it doesn't go the route of Sony and Microsoft. They barely have original games of their own.

Consoles will soon have nothing new to offer except better graphics and more gimmicks. Ask yourself, what could come next after the PS4, Xbox720, and Wii U?

So my question is, what will happen to video games in the future?

Games that die just go to the "Games Graveyard" AKA They become ROM files that everyone plays on emulators so they never really die xD

Not everything has to die off. Computers don't look like they are going anywhere. Sure, tablets and the like are stepping in, but do you think they will really stop selling normal computers (anyways you can look at tablets as just another way the computer industry has expanded)? And, do you really think the video game industry cannot sustain itself for 20 more years?

Easy, PS5, Xbox900, and Wii U2. Can you really not think of anything that could be improved, nothing you'd like to see more of? Motion controls are still quite new, and haven't been exploited nearly as much as they can. There is massive room for improvement on that front, as well as many others. 3D in games is starting to gain a whole new meaning. Developers just now have the power to really make 3d games, and there is tons that can be done with that as well. And of course full immersion (and by this I mean simulators) gaming hasn't been touched on by major players in the industry (mostly due to the large cost, and lack of portability). Take a look at this, and ask yourself if there is nothing in gaming that can be improved on? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQR49JGySTM

If anything I think graphics will cease improving, and consoles will branch out to other things. Performance is still a major limiting factor in games, designers still have to work around said limitation when making games. Full scale war simulation is impossible with our current consoles, and I'm sure that would be an amazing thing to be able to play. And it doesn't just concern fps games or the like, there is so much room for improvement. And this not at all touches on mmo type games. Interaction with other players as well as their interaction with the game world won't die out pretty much ever. There will always be room for improvement.

As for no more new game ideas, even if that were the case, do people not like mario anymore? While changes have been made in mario, it still at its core is the same game. People love that game, and always will. Just because the genre has been done before doesn't mean the game won't be fun or worth buying. One of the great things I see in video games is that the possibilities are endless. It isn't just about the core gameplay, you can create different and impossible worlds within games. Will the art of writing stories ever die? You as the game designer create stories to learn, worlds to explore, and with that alone, I doubt video games will ever die. I could go on, but I've got to go, and I hope I've made my point.
