What programs have people generally found helpful in making games with Game Editor. I've found Irfanview helpful for shrinking a graphic.
I need to find a good graphics drawing program--not Photoshop--I'm not ready for that yet--any suggestions?

Well I usually use Paint, to create/modify my graphics. I know it seems boring and all, but if you learn how to use it properly, you can make great things! Otherwise I can recommend you this :

Photofiltre : (1.6 Mb), it's free, and can do many interesting things with effects etc. You'll find a better description in the website. If you plan on using this, I can also suggest you to take a look at the plug-ins, which can be very useful! Enjoy!

I don't find Paint boring. :D But I'll try Photofiltre. Thanks!!!

You're welcome! Oh and if you need help with the programming, I might be able to help too! Any other program you need?

Thanks about the programming. I will undoubtedly need help. Of course, I'm reading all the threads and filing away some information. I know enough C to do a few things and I'm learning more but that's my less strong area. :D

Any programs you might find useful, please mention. I've just been experimenting and putting things in--so am discovering things I need as they come up. I'm really impressed with Game Editor--thoroughly hooked. :D

Thanks for your help. I'll probably be mostly experimenting this week and then try to make some type of game next week.

Well, I use another program to program my games, and that is Notepad ++

Notepad ++ Website : (644 Kb) It's a Notepad but with a whole lot more stuff! The main thing is that it can color your text depending on what language you choose, so that the code can be a lot more easier to read! Check out the Screenshots page and you'll understand what I mean. I use this because you can see your code in a clearer way.

I'll try that one too. Thanks. You're very helpful. My eyes usually blur after a couple of days of staring at game code so that might make it easier. :D

I try to be as helpful as I can, seeing that people here tend to do so...Except with me! For whatever reason, no one can help me getting my small engine right, and I'm sure 90% of the forumers here can do it... Anyway anything else? Do you need resources? (Sprites/Tiles etc.?)

It's a good forum. :D Yes, I need sprites/tiles and the etc. although I don't know what's included in the etc. yet. :D If I ever get to the point where I can help you with what you're trying to do, I will.

Well seeing that you need resources, I have compiled a list of interesting website you might want to look at :

The Spriter's Resource (a.k.a TSR) : One of the biggest sprite resource website out there in the internet. If you can't find what you are looking for there, then there's little chance that you will find it anywhere!

VGMusic : This is THE website for any music you'll need for your game. It's the most complete website that has MIDI's of a huge variety of games. Notice that MIDI is the best audio format for 2D video games. It keeps the feeling and it doesn't take too much space.

Tilesnet : The website you'll need for Tiles and evironment graphics. Has a lot of them and the best quality!

Anything else you need, just ask!

I think mod, xm and it formats are better, due the music sounds exactly the same in any machine,

I've never heard of them, but MIDI is the format that is used by most of the commercial 2D games.
