You sure? "Saint Nick" came from the Netherlands, he would put chocolate in good children's shoes. At least, that's what us "dutch" people are taught.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all, especially Makslane!

I've been here a year now!

Nah, Santa Claus (and the way how he dresses) is made by coca cola, im sure. And not from Sinterklaas that we have in the Netherlands.

I guess you are kidding ;)

In the case that not: Santa of course existed in Europe centuries before Coca Cola. Actually the character is based on the Bishop Nicolause of Myra. (This is why he is dressed in red. Bishop-red) The bishop of Myra was said to be good to childern. One day he heard of two girls who were so poor that their familiy would sent them to go as whores. So he sneaked to their house and placed two spheres of pure Gold under their beds. This Legend probably gave birth to the Europe-Wide image of Santa giving out presents to childern.

what i meen that coca cola created santa, I meen he evented santa and not nickolas, nickolas is way before santa, and santa is wen my granparents existed, well anyway, maybe what i say is not truth but it was my history proff that told me that, he know's a lot, and hes funny.

Coca-Cola didn't invent Santa as a character. This IS fact. (Saw the Wikipedia-Article?) Coca-Cola picked up an already existing mythological figure that has MANY varitions in many countries and enthnics. The dutch is one of them, but also the swiss "Samichalus" the french "père noël" the German "Weihnachtsmann" and so on. They all go back to various mythological roots which are for one the said bishop of Myra but also older pagan beliefs.
Coca-Cola, by picking up the Myth helped probably to esthalish the image that is most common in the US now. It is just an onther variation.

my history proff that told me that, he know's a lot, and hes funny.

If he's funny he probably just made a joke, assuming that you all know the thruth. If he would pretend seriously that Santa is an invention of Coca-Cola it would be a heavy case of wrong teaching.

Coca Cola didn't invent santa they just changed his color from blue to red, Sinalco tried to do the same with yellow color but failed.

I hate to contradict everytime. But Sanats Color was always red. The red coat is the Bishop coat of saint Nicholas of Myra.

If he wasn't joking, then he is badly informed. This is not good, since the myths and origins about santa Clause are well documented. So we CAN know.

Willg101: Yeah, I luked that article, too.
