Name: Target Defense v. 2.51 fast + reload
Type: Tower Defense
Res: 640x480 Windowed
Author: DST

GEtd.jpg

The most solid release of Target Defense for GE released so far, I have decided to release
the full ged version as well as the exe.

The game now runs very smoothly and it seems mos of the glitches are fixed. However, there is still
testing to be done, there are still perhaps bugs i haven't found, and the difficulty has not
been adjusted properly. Please let me know what you think of the difficulty level.

The code is released freely; anyone can use it it their own games.

UPDATED: Per Lexocondran's reply, some towers were lowered in cost, and the tower actions were moved to draw actor.
Lag shouldn't be as bad now.

Please accept this game as an answer to the question "Has anyone made any commercial games with GE?".

Yes, but the author decided to give it away for free.

Thanks to everyone on the forum who has contributed to the learning of all. It really does make a difference!

the glitch of lag is still in the game where eventually if you have to many characters the lasers will lag and its gets horrible to where you cant do anything at all i cant figure out what makes it happen but it seems like horrible lag and also i think the prices should be lowered on some of the really expensive ones to highest of 1000$ each :D

I thought the prices were actually pretty good, at least for my strategy. I only use the cheapest weapon, and upgrade them. After a few levels you get more money than you really need. The lag doesn't occur for me, but after awhile, I can't place anymore towers. I haven't looked at the code, so I might do that... Any particular reason upgrades stop at level 6?

I really enjoyed this game, spent several hours playing it today! :D
It was a bit on the easy side, but a clever and fun design. Very well made too!!

Since I had excess funds at the end and some of my towers never got a chance to fire at an enemy, I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to have each tower disintegrate just a tiny bit after each firing. Maybe the tower would become dark and inoperable after 200 firings or something? Having to replace useless old towers with new ones might have added to the challenge and overall strategy while also giving me something to do with those extra funds.

Good job!

Edit:

I examined your code and am perplexed about something. You mostly used global variables just like I am doing in my project, but you aren't declaring them in your actor scripts before using them. When I try to do that I always get an "undeclared identifier" error. How are you doing that?

The upgrades stop at level 6 because there's a color for each, and if there's too many colors, either towers aren't unique or there are too many colors onscreen and it turns into visual soup. The idea is that you can customize the color of your setup by how you choose to upgrade towers.

You try to use the most powerful colors, and eventually you're only left with weaker ones to add.

I'm declaring them using the variables tab on the script editor, where you can choose to make global integers into arrays.

Can anyone tell me why this file reads 2,900 downloads yet the post only has 970 views?

Is the download tracker incorrect, or is someone hotlinking to the files????

Hey kren, I'm able to work on your mario-clone now if you want to later :D I'll take the GED file and I'll mod it uplook even nicer with smooth buttons, and I'll try to uh, "smoothen" out the edges of all actors using Gimp.
